My mom wanted me to become a lawyer. My dad envisioned me joining him and eventually running the family business. But I hate wearing ties. And in the event of following the second path, the father-son relationship would have certainly become just as functional as the one of the Skywalkers. So I landed a job in advertising instead, as Jr. Copywriter at Terán TBWA, creating some award-winning work for Brandy Presidente, Bic, Camino Real, Gamesa, and Jumex.
Then I became a global player at Leo Burnett, in charge of the Corona account, arguably one of the most symbolic and recognized Mexican icons. Not only did I re-discover a particular fascination with beer in those days, but I also created a multi-awarded campaign that repositioned the brand within younger consumers who were massively switching to recently introduced imported beers.
Later, I lead a creative team for 021 Comunicaciones, turning what used to be a small design shop into a well-known agency now featured in award lists, including the Effie’s, The New York Festivals, Midas Awards, and El Ojo de Iberoamérica. The client roster kept growing, from American Express, Aeroméxico, and General Motors, to Hyatt, Turner Broadcasting System, and Café Punta del Cielo.
And just as many other anxious Mexicans, I crossed the border and moved to the US. 2 years in Washington, DC, 3 years in San Francisco, CA, and now making a happy family living in Houston, TX. I can proudly say I've had the privilege of working with some of the most talented and interesting people in the ad world.
My work has been featured in some of the most important festivals and publications in the business.
